About IPL
When you struggle with how your complexion looks because of sun damage or dark spots, Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center can perform a skin analysis at our Jackson and Dyersburg, TN offices to determine if you qualify for IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy with innovative Lumenis technology. An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adults with hyperpigmentation problems on their neck and face. A photofacial may not be an invasive procedure, but it can be highly effective and produce great outcomes. Dr. Laura Dipuma utilizes IPL treatments to send intense pulses of light energy that heat the skin cells to set off the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. As the added nutrients take effect, you should see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer spots. Ideal Candidates
A photofacial works deep within the layers of your skin to treat many complexion blemishes (especially brown lesions and sun spots) with little or no recovery time. Candidates for an IPL photofacial at Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center may have several issues with their skin, including rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, visible pores, redness, melasma, age and sun spots, or spider veins. Dr. Laura Dipuma will assess your complexion to see if you will benefit from an IPL photofacial at your initial consultation.
Procedure Technique
An IPL photofacial is performed inside our Jackson or Dyersburg, TN office in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our treatment rooms if no other treatments are performed. To prepare for the photofacial, your technician will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with special laser shields. The IPL photofacial is administered using a handheld device that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of laser energy. While most patients may feel some discomfort throughout the IPL photofacial, it is usually tolerable given the fast treatment time.
What to Expect
There usually is no downtime needed with an IPL photofacial treatment, but you may leave our office with your skin a little red and inflamed. This will decrease on its own in several hours — it can be masked with makeup if you prefer. Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center suggests patients use an ointment on the skin to decrease irritation and speed healing. It also helps to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to help decrease swelling. Over the next several days, the irregularities under the skin will come to the surface and then start to flake off. It is necessary to keep your skin protected from the sun as often as possible after an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at the flaking skin. While you will see some results after your first treatment, your complexion will attain ideal results after multiple IPL treatments. Dr. Laura Dipuma recommends approximately 3 – 6 sessions done monthly at Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center.
