About Chemical Peels
To provide the highest quality results from chemical peel facial treatments, Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center provides you with several choices. Your individualized facial treatment with chemical solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids) will give you more radiant skin. At our Jackson and Dyersburg, TN offices, medical director Dr. Laura Dipuma offers chemical peel treatments that help to minimize skin irregularities, like wrinkles, fine lines, scars, dry patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels dissolve dead, damaged skin cells with the application of a special solution on your skin that causes the upper layer to peel off. As your skin recovers and begins to repair and rejuvenate itself, you should notice a smoother, clearer complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive way to make your skin radiant and may be used for the neck and face. Variations of Chemical Peels
In our Jackson and Dyersburg offices, we offer chemical peels in a few levels (light, medium, and deep) to meet our patients' skin concerns and goals.
Light peels: You can receive a light peel during your lunch break and go right back to your day. This type of peel will remove the outer skin layer (the epidermis), giving your complexion a more radiant appearance and softer texture. We usually suggest that you receive a light peel about once a month for the best glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This level of chemical peel reaches deeper into the skin, and you may generally prefer to have this level of facial treatment during a long weekend. You may also want to prepare yourself for more discomfort during and up to one hour after treatment. Medium-depth peels are best for patients who have deeper damage to their skin, such as deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: The most advanced of the three types of chemical peels is the deep peel treatment, and it does require the lengthiest recovery time. This is an aggressive procedure that could leave your face itchy, swollen, and peeling for several weeks. Patients who have a deep peel will have dark age spots, sun damage, entrenched acne scars, and/or deep-seated scars. Since this type of chemical peel is usually uncomfortable for most patients, we will provide you with mild anesthesia as a part of your procedure.

Am I A candidate for a Chemical Peel?
Receiving the advice of an aesthetic specialist is the initial step in the journey to smooth, healthy skin. A team member at Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center can evaluate your skin during an examination in our Jackson and Dyersburg, TN offices before choosing a chemical peel treatment for ideal results. Chemical peel patients, both men and women, typically have visible problems with their skin, including acne scars, rough patches, flaky skin, uneven pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. We will recommend different types of peels to match your needs and concerns.
Chemical Peel Technique
During your procedure at Nordstar Medical, Skincare & Laser Center, we will have you lie in a comfortable position to administer your peel. A team member will make sure the skin is cleansed prior to applying the customized solution to your treatment areas. We will massage the solution onto your face and let it sit for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed within your treatment consultation. Next, we will wash the peel off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. You should bring a light sunscreen and/or a hat to wear outside after the procedure to protect against UV exposure.
Chemical Peel Recovery
Depending on the strength of the peel you choose, you can expect your skin to peel and itch from several days to two or more weeks. Dr. Dipuma or a member of her team will provide instructions on ways to care for your skin during your consultation. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the recovery, it is not good to pull the skin off. You could cause scarring to your facial skin!
